One of the dirtiest plants around, it was required to install SO2 scrubbers, but never did. In 2005, the plant emitted 74,658 tons of SO2. The scrubber project was projected to cost $460 million. In December of 2008 the SO2 cleanup halted for again (for at least 18months).
The plant was originally built to serve the Portsmouth, OH uranium enrichment plant, closed down in 2000.
