Peabody will build the Prairie State Energy Campus -- a 1,600-megawatt (MW), coal-fired electricity plant, comprised of two 750 MWe pulverized coal boilers and one 400 mmBtu/hr auxillary boiler -- in Washington County in southern Illinois. Construction at Prairie, if the plans pass state approval, is scheduled to start in late 2002 to early 2003 and is expected to last approximately four years.
