August 2007: Great news! Excelsior Energy's proposed 603-MW Mesaba coal-burning power plant suffered another setback in early August when the Minnesota PUC said the company's plan for the IGCC plant was not in the public's best interest. The state regulators were not convinced that purchasing electricity from the proposed plant would be the most cost-effective solution.
